Retreat in the Midst of Chaos

I sit listening to the gentle waves.

Sunlight beating into my heart.
I think about the light of Jesus I prayed about this morning.

Inhale.
Exhale.
Peace.
Rest.
Typical 'retreat sentiments'
             {excerpt from my journal, February 12, 2016}

I skimmed over these words as I flipped to a blank page last night.
Remembering those quiet moments, while I was free to be still.
Asking.
Listening.
Thinking.

I think about the ocean I drive by everyday.
The tides going in and out, compatible with the moon.
How complex those simple moments are.

I have four weeks left of school. A research paper to write. Math to complete. Two science exams, along with my history papers.
My sister is graduating.
She has to decide where she will spend the next four years of her life tonight.

I am Dorthy in our dance school's production of The Wizard of Oz.
We are going host family and throw a graduation party.
I am going to drink coffee and write papers late into the night.
Enough sweat to fill a lake is about to seep from my pours.

Rest? Calm?

During finals?
While my one of best friend packs to leave?
When I wait in the wings, preparing to dance a full length ballet?

I asked God about peace last night.
I poured out my thoughts, my questions, my heartache.
And although my eyelids were drooping and my mattress encompassed my exhausted body, I read my words from that day.

My 'retreat alone time' journal entry.
My thoughts during that weekend.
And although it was a bubble, it wasn't the only time I experience this peace.

I experienced it this morning as I globed on mascara.
I experienced it as I drove to class.
I was at peace during my test.
My soul is at peace, because of Him.

Today, I pray you will find calm in the storm.
I hope you will find joy in the ordinary.
I pray you will anchor yourself on the peace of Jesus.

And may you know how loved and valuable you are in the chaos of this crazy life.

Joy in my Journal: a guest post

Hello Elissa's lovely readers,
My name is Joanny and I blog over at Joannywhite.co.uk. A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Elissa asking if I could do a guest post for her blog. I haven't done a guest post in a while and I love doing them so I didn't hesitate to say yes.

Elissa gave me a list of topics to talk about and when I saw one that mentioned "something that brings me joy", I immediately thought I would write about my journalling experience.
I have been journalling for a while now and I have really enjoyed it so  I will write a bit about the different things I journal about and how that has helped me grow closer to God.

 Prayers:

When I got my first journal, I thought there wasn't really much to journal about as the only thing I wrote in my journal were my prayers.
Sometimes I feel like writing about my feelings especially my prayers of gratitude.
This really motivates me to always be thankful because I always read back and discover that I've gone through a lot and that through everything, God has always been faithful.
Bible Verses:
Another thing I journal about is bible verses. There are so many of them I love and I can't pick a favourite. I feel like the colour brings the words to life and I constantly get reminded by looking at them.

Events:
I take advantage of events like Good Friday and Easter to draw. I have recently been into drawing and so I try to do more of it in my journal. These drawings help me remember the importance of these events.

Song Lyrics:
I love songs and I think the most important thing about songs is their lyrics. When the lyrics speak to me, I write in my journal so I can keep reminding myself about what it says.

Quotes:
Inspirational quotes are one of very favourite things too. I love quotes because they are so uplifting and brighten up my day. I find them really encouraging and motivating.

If journaling is something you are considering, hopefully this post has given you more ideas about how you can make journaling very colorful and fun. It doesn't  have to be words. You can get as creative as you want. Let your imagination go wild and just get lost in the moment. Quality time spent with the Lord is never wasted. Hopefully thus inspired someone.
If you want to see more about my journals or know more about me, you can always pop over to my blog and say hi.
Thanks ever so much for reading.
God bless.

5 Reasons I love to Journal

Hello friends! Today, I am so excited to share this post that Faith wrote for my blog. Faith blogs over at Faith's Girly Life where she shares diy, fashion, lifestyle, and her heart for Jesus. I hope you enjoy this post as much as I did! -Elissa

Hey everyone! I'm Faith from Faith's Girly Life and I was blessed to have the chance to guest post here on Letters to Jayna! Lately I've gotten more into journaling (you can check out some more about that over on my blog) so I thought I'd share 5 reasons why I love to journal. Hope y'all enjoy!

1. It's a good "wind down" tool-
A lot of times I will journal at night before I go to sleep. I think it's just a good way to end the day. It's quiet, it's clam, and I find that when I'm done writing I feel good about going to sleep.

2. Getting things on paper is a good release-
This one is pretty simple. But I feel like sometimes writing stud down is a good way to get it out of your mind and let it go.

3. I learn more about myself-
Sometimes journaling really makes you think, and this allows you to really dig into who you are. how you feel, and what you believe.

4. I can be totally me no matter what-
There's no one judging you on a piece of paper, so there's no reason not to say exactly what you want to. This has been so freeing for me as someone who gets very anxious about what others think about it.

5. It refocuses my mind-
Having something specific to write about really helps me just focus my mind when it's normally very hectic (I'm that person who has a million things going on in their mind at once)

So do you journal? What made you start? What do you like about it? Let me (& Elissa) know! & feel free to check out faithsgirlylife.blogspot.com for more of my blog posts!

XOXO
Faith
