blogging stage fright

Welp, this is embarrassing.

Please excuse my horrible posting.

Although  I don't really have a awesome excuse, I will try to muster something.
Here we go:

1. I was five things in Nutcracker. Five. I was onstage alllll theee time and it was amazing and magical. But it also required a lot of rehearsal and energy.

2. The whole senior thing is really kicking my butt. I totally had this idea that senior year was going to be relaxing and fun and I would spend lots of time with my friends and blah blah blah. No. Collage applications require writing all your information down fifty million times, typing beautiful and original essays, sending in videos of flawless talking and dancing, on top of countless emails and phone calls. Like I seriously did not realize how much time researching and applying for collages took. I also didn't realize that my schoolwork would continue to increase in intensity. I would be happy to write (coughcoughcomplain) more in another post if you're interest in hearing my expanded soap opera. Just let me know ;-)

3. I'm scared to be less than perfect.

Blogging has been hard lately. Yes, I've been busy, but seriously, what else is new?
I have stuff to say.
I have half-written thoughts.

But those thoughts get shot down by my desire to get the words just right.
My need for thoughts to be perfectly cohesive.
My ideas 'right' and clear.

So I'm embarrassed.

I'm embarrassed because I've tried to write this post but then I write it and it sucks.

I'm embarrassed because all the sudden I have blogging stage fright.

So here I am hoping I'll hit publish to this grammatically incorrect, confusingly formatted and completely ridiculous post.
Because if I'm really going to be authentic, you'll really know-
I'm not perfect, and neither is this blog.

I am so excited to let you know that I'm now a contributor to a new blog called BURNING YOUTH!!

Sisters Kate and Abbie who blog at the goodness revolt and Abbiee are some of my favorite bloggers. Their blogs are GOALS. Like, go check them out and leave them comments and chocolate.
You won't be sorry.

So when Kate contacted me about collaborating on a project/website/blog/something totally awesome  I was slightly starstruck and super excited.
So excited.

What is BURNING YOUTH about?

Exactly what it sounds like it’s about: youth on fire. Living inspired lives, and inspiring others. It’s about our lives as warheads, overcoming, fighting the demons, making the world a better place, art, travel music—things that make our hearts hum. That’s what BURNING YOUTH is an outlet for. Most importantly, helping other young adults realize that they aren’t fighting their battles alone… that we’re in this together. We are all taking down the shadows and searching for identity. We can do that together. We can take hands in the darkness and fight this stuff in unison, not solitude.

^^I may have stolen the about words from Kate...

There ya go. My big exciting news. ;-)

March Favorites

March: endless shows and school sums up March for me. Here are my favorites form the month!

movie// I would say my absolute favorite movie this month would be The Italian Job. It's one of those classic sleepover flicks that contains all the elements of a good story. It goes well with ice cream.

book// One of my school books was Prince Caspian, and it was so fun to re-read! I originally read it a long time ago with my older sister and I have always related to Lucy in all the Narnia books. However, this time around I found myself gravitating towards Susan more. Her struggles with fear and finding herself resonated with me:-)

writing// I did quite a bit of writing in March. We have a big editorial competition where I take classes, so I was busy working on that. I also spent quite a bit of time working on narrative writing, which was interesting. All the pieces I did for my English class in March where pretty heavy and deep, so it's been difficult getting out of that head space.

face// March has not been kind to my face. I've had two (two!!!) pimples right underneath my eyebrow. It is the most awkward place/thing ever. My favorite product would have to be my EOS lip balm because my lips have been so dry. Basic, I know.

makeup// I've started using the L'Oreal Voluminous mascara in carbon black, and I really like it so far! I'm am a total mascara junkie, and I have high expectations for my eyelashes. So far, so good.

clothes// I've been having trouble transitioning into a more 'springy' look this year- I'm not ready to let all of my boots and sweaters go! My most worn item for March is definitely my black skinny jeans. I wear them alll the time.

blog// It's been fun discovering lots of new blogs this month. It's really hard to pick one favorite, but I would have to say Kate who blogs at the goodness revolt has stood out to me. Her writing is so beautiful (like seriously, go check out this post right now) and I love the verity in what she writes.

post// Gahh, again this is so hard because I've read so much good stuff! Buuuutttt, this post (rich dirt) by Cally who writes at Words Passing You By is amazing. You need to go follow her right now.

Okay readers, I need some help! I know a lot of you are avid readers who read, read, read and I am so not. Although I enjoy reading, I'm so busy and at the end of the day I just collapse. However, I need some new material, so leave your recommendations in the comments!

the other side of the screen

I sit here curled up in a ball.
Yoga pants and a sweatshirt cover my leotard and tights.
I stare at this blank page, this blank post.

how do i use my voice?

One of my goals for 2016 was to be more real. To display the complete package .
Some will view it as a beautiful wrapped present, and others will view it as a crumpled package on the floor.
It scares me slightly.

But I also know I long to see the imperfections of others.
I want to know I'm not alone in my weakness and failures.
My soul craves the naked truth of the gospel.

I don't try to act like someone I'm not.
I am an A student.
I am a extrovert (for the most part) and have a inclusive personality.
I am responsible.
I volunteer.
I communicate well.
I avoid conflict.

I also think negatively about people.
I am a gossip.
I make judgments about people based of their appearance.
I over commit myself.

What draws me to people?
A sense of 'realness'.

To be vulnerable, I have to risk facing your judgments of me.
And at some point, that cripples me.
I need people to like me.
My blog is designed to show you something you want to read.
I want you to like my pictures, my writing, heck, even my fonts.

But are you gaining anything of value from my font?
Are you going to walk away from your side of the computer screen feeling relationship?
Feeling you can relate?

is this stupid?

I want real.
I want truth.
I want the funny embarrassing stories.

That's why I tell you about when I peed my paints on a hike.
That's why I tell you about my nutcracker withdraw sympotoms
It's why I love awkward and awesome.

So I sit, curled up in my safe and cozy chair. Contemplating hitting the publish button.
My cocoon of quietness pushes me to take advantage of this rare moment.

but will I?
